Presbyterian Women

Presbyterian Women (PW) is a churchwide organization whose membership is open to all women of PC (USA) who choose to participate in or be supportive of the organization. Westover’s PW are active in many community outreach programs, as well as supporting the life of our church with kitchen maintenance and supplies, staffing and food for functions, providing hospitality and snacks for programs, and coordinating wedding & baby showers for church members/family.

Horizon Bible studies through church circles is also a function of PW. The Ruth Circle meets at 7pm  the second Monday evening from September-April in member’s homes. The combined day circles, Sarah/Mary/Esther meet at 10am, the third Tuesday in the Gathering Space.

Westover’s women also make compassion blankets for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Palliative Care Unit. The blankets offer a warm hug to patients at the end of their lives and are gifts of compassion made by the loving hands of Westover’s Presbyterian women usually on the third Sunday of each month following services.

Westover’s women also provide catering for the UAMS Palliative Care Memorial Reception held in November of each year. Families who lost a loved one from UAMS’s Palliative care unit come to share and remember their loved one. PW provides the food and volunteers to help with the event. It is a very emotional & meaningful event.

Westover’s women began literacy programs at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility in 2017. A Westover PW Team also teaches re-entry skills to women at Hawkins prison in Wrightsville. Another PW group teaches weekly art classes at the Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center. All of these programs are funded by proceeds from Treats & Treasures. One of the recently funded programs is the lactation room for new mom’s at Hawkins prison. Women can pump and store breast milk that is delivered or picked up by their families for their babies.
