PRAISING GOD IN THE HEIGHTS
SERVING GOD IN THE WORLD

Westover Worship

Sunday Morning Worship
Westover Hills conducts public worship of God on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary, which is open to all who wish to attend.
Communion
On the first Sunday of each month and on significat dates in the liturgical calendar, the sacrament of communion is included in worship. Communion in the Presbyterian Church is open to all baptized Christians regardless of denominational affiliation. Once a year members of the youth group participate in Youth Sunday, and at other times worship may involve drama, special music or other activities

Wednesday Evening Worship
On Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. there is an informal service of worship held in the chapel which contains all the elements of Sunday morning worship. This service lasts approximately one-half hour and includes communion each week. On the Wednesday proceeding the first Sunday of the month, the service focuses on spiritual, physical, and emotional healing. All are invited to participate.

Morning Prayer

In the Book of Common Worship it states, "Worship is at the very heart of the church's life. All that the church is and does is rooted in its worship." At Westover Hills we have three opportunities to worship each week, Sunday morning on the Lord's Day, Wednesday evening with our weekly communion and then on Thursday morning with our morning prayer. Every Thursday there is a group of us that comes together to pray specifically for all of those people on our prayer list as well as those concerns in our community and in our world. Thursday Morning Prayer meets in the chapel at 9:00 a.m. and is open to anyone who would like to come and join together in a time of prayer.

Prayer Knots

As an aid to spiritual formation and development Westover Hills is involved in experimenting with a new program called Prayer Knots. Each "knot", a group of 4 or 5 individuals, meets once a week to study and grow together. Each participant also agrees to undertake a discipline of daily Bible reading, prayer, journaling and memory work. Each is also encouraged to engage in a form of outreach in the community (i.e. Habitat for Humanity, Stewpot, Rice Depot, etc.).

There are three prayer knots currently meeting at Westover Hills: Prayer Knot #2 meets Tuesdays @ 4:00 p.m. at the home of Jo Fontaine; Prayer Knot #1 meets immediately follow Wednesday evening activities; and Prayer Knot #3 meets @ 5:30 p.m. at a member's home. These prayer knots have been meeting for nearly five years, and while these three groups are filled new prayer knots may be formed if there is interest.

  Special Worship Opportunities
During the year there are special services of worship which celebrate significant seasons of the Christian calendar. These include:
Ash Wednesday: at the beginning of the season of Lent a service is held in the sanctuary and includes communion and the imposition of ashes.
Maundy Thursday: on the Thursday before Easter a communion service is held in the sanctuary to commemorate the Last Supper and the passion of Jesus.
Good Friday: on the Friday before Easter a service of prayer is held in the sanctuary remembering the crucifixion.
Christmas Eve: on the night before Christmas a candle-light communion service is held in the sanctuary.

Please check with the church office for further details. Child care for children through pre school age is always available during services of worship.
